Emerging Disruptions

We’re all managing the disruption of AI.

But another major disruption is already on the horizon: quantum computing.

“Q-Day”—the point when sufficiently powerful quantum computers could break much of today’s encryption—may still be years away.

But the risk is already here.

Attackers can harvest encrypted data today and decrypt it later. For organizations protecting information with long-term value—medical claims, patient records, patents, intellectual property, financial data, and government information—that matters now.

And preparing for quantum is not a switch you flip when Q-Day arrives. It can take years to identify where cryptography is embedded, assess vendors and legacy systems, and migrate to post-quantum cryptography.

The lesson from AI is simple: disruption rarely waits until we’re ready.

We need to start preparing for quantum before it becomes an emergency.

The question isn't “When is Q-Day?”

It’s “Will we be ready when it arrives?”
